19th Hole

Maureen Orcutt, a
seven-time WEGA Champion passed away in early 2007. Her son Mike Orcutt
was kind enough to send along some pictures he found of his mother and some of
her golfing acquaintances -
a veritable "Who's
Who" in Womens' Amateur golf!

Below is a copy of a
brochure prepared in 1983, quoting remarks made by Margaret Curtis in 1941.
The "Good Old Days" sound like lots of fun! It's interesting
that the "great charm" of the Women's Eastern Amateur "was the
fun of playing with the girls whom one saw but rarely and not under the strain
of a match."
The players she mentions were the founders and early stalwarts of the WGAM.
"Glenna" is Glenna Colette Vare who was a "Boston" player
since Rhode Island was part of the Boston Association until 1927. Quite a
crew!
Suzanne Nelson found
this in her Griscom Cup "stuff". Hope you enjoy this bit of
history!
